| Cristie Kerr leads the race with 669 points |
Double points were on the line in the U.S. Solheim Cup race during the 2011 Wegmans LPGA Championship this past week and a number of American players took advantage. Morgan Pressel’s second-place finish earned her 60 points, as she now sits at 423.5 points which puts her second in the race. Pressel still trails Cristie Kerr, who continues to hold a commanding lead in the race with 669 points.
Kerr and Paula Creamer both earned 57 points for their third place finishes at Wegmans and Creamer’s big point boost moved her up into the fourth spot in the race at 374.5 points. Stacy Lewis currently sits in third with 383.5 points and Michelle Wie is fifth with 358 points. Angela Stanford (356), Brittany Lincicome (338.5), Brittany Lang (210.5), Juli Inkster (188.5) and Christina Kim (150.5) round out the current top-10.
A total of 10 players earned points toward a spot on the U.S. Solheim Cup team and with double points offered at the two upcoming major championships, there is still plenty of time for players to make a push in the race. Nine players are currently within 100 points of Kim. Five total tournaments remain for players to earn points before the team is announced following the Safeway Classic Presented by Coca-Cola. U.S. Captain Rosie Jones will add two captain’s picks to the 10 points qualifiers to round of the 12 player team that will take on Alison Nicholas and the Europeans, Sept. 23-25, 2011 at Killeen Castle in Ireland.
